Introduction Metrology - the science of measurement - plays a key role in the development of society, industry, economy and trade. Our lives are engaged in the various dimensions of measurement at home, the markets, factories and laboratories. In the modern world today, the trend is towards a global understanding and internationalization of metrology. The rapid improvement of metrology contributes to the development of the other branches of science, particularly physics. On the other hand, physics forms the basis of metrology. The research progress in physics changes directly the method and result of measurement. It is therefore of great importance to enhance our knowledge about the correlation between the two subjects. "The 2nd International Symposium on Metrology & Physics Application, and Energy Measurement (ISMPAEM-2004)" is dedicated to discussion on energy measurement from the perspective of the relationship between metrology and application technology. It is expected that the symposium will lead to better professional vision on energy measurement, thus deepening our understanding of energy conservation and environmental protection. Based on the recommendations of the successful first symposium on a similar theme held at The Institute of Physics (IOP), Beijing, China, this symposium is organized by The Research Center for Calibration, Instrumentation and Metrology - The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Puslit KIM-LIPI) at Serpong, Indonesia and sponsored by R&D institutions and trade confederations in Indonesia and DCMTPIN. The sponsors sincerely invite professionals in the respective fields at home and abroad to participate in the symposium, present research findings and managing concept, and demonstrate advanced meters and equipment of measurement. This event will be held in conjunction with PPI-KIM 2004, a national conference on Calibration, Instrumentation and Metrology, held annually by PUSLIT KIM-LIPI. DurationAugust 24 - 29, 2004 VenueGedung Dewan Riset Nasional, Kawasan Puspiptek, Serpong 15314, Indonesia Serpong is a science town situated about 25 km from Jakarta. It can be reached within approximately one and a half hour by drive from Jakarta International Airport, Cengkareng. Transport of Airport - Serpong back and forth for foreign participants will be arranged by the organizer. Sponsors The Indonesian
